DIGNIFIED OLD AGE

In 2017, the foundation initiated the "dignified old age" program. This is a program of quality life changes for the elderly in geriatric boarding houses.

Collecting charitable assistance for the elderly is quite difficult. People are more willing to help children, subconsciously believing that they need to support the future. But the future of each of us is old age. We will all become senior citizens.

Living conditions in geriatric boarding houses often have nothing to do with the understanding of human dignity: metal dishes, lack of elementary household and hygienic conditions (mobile toilets, standard bathrooms, showers for those who move around in a wheelchair, etc.), metal beds with old mattresses, old, leaky bedding and underwear, a glaring lack of medicine, lack of leisure activities. Of course, there are some well-kept boarding houses in good premises, but they also do not have sufficient funding from the state.

The program operates in 10 regions: Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, Zaporizhia and Ivano-Frankivsk. 127 geriatric boarding houses are under the systematic care of the Foundation (the number is constantly growing). We join new regions every year and dream of covering all of Ukraine with our help as soon as possible!

OUR CONTINUES PROJECTS

The Foundation team set the following tasks:

Update furniture (beds, bedside tables, wardrobes, etc.);
Replace old bedding sets with high-quality and pleasant to the touch;
Purchase medical equipment (functional beds, bedside tables, wheelchairs, toilet chairs, walkers, crutches, etc.);
Provide specific household appliances;
Update communications as needed; create an atmosphere of home comfort;
Update household appliances (washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and freezers, etc.);

How do we attract new geriatric nursing homes under our care?

We developed a sequence of steps and a clear action plan, which we follow when covering new areas with help.

In each region, we go to the Department of Social Protection of the Regional State Administration to get to know each other and receive support;

We go to the boarding house, meet the management and inspect all the premises; We sign a cooperation agreement, monitor and analyze available information;

We study the general condition of the building and utility systems;
4

We study how the administration of the boarding house interacts with the staff and care recipients; We communicate with the care recipients, find out about their needs, complaints and wishes;

Communicate with staff and learn about their problems and needs;
6

We make a presentation, evaluate the boarding house on all points, and determine successive steps for assistance.

Based on the results of our visit, we make a list of the boarding house's needs and:

We replace dishes with ceramic ones, and bed linen with new and high-quality ones;

We provide drinking water (we buy coolers) and long-term storage products;

We provide personal hygiene products;
4

We determine the special needs of each boarding house and provide assistance where necessary.
